Viewers disappointed by the fog-filled fireworks show that took place at Navy Pier for the Fourth of July are being offered a freebie to help make up for it.
Fog impacted the visibility of a massive Fourth of July fireworks display that was set to be the venue’s “largest and longest” ever Saturday.
Fog rolled in off of Lake Michigan during the late afternoon hours on Saturday and persisted into the evening, adding an eerie element to the explosive display, meant to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Visitors cited limited views of what was expected to be a spectacular show.
In a Facebook post overnight, Navy Pier officials said they were “disappointed” the show was impacted by fog, and they offered “a gesture” to those who came to watch.
“We are disappointed with the effect fog had on tonight’s Independence Day fireworks’ visibility, and understand it impacted our guests’ experience,” the post read.
Officials offered free rides on Navy Pier’s iconic Centennial Wheel beginning at 6 p.m. every Wednesday through Labor Day.
The popular Chicago attraction hosts fireworks displays every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer, and will continue to do this year.
Officials said more information on the free rides would be released in the coming days.
