A driver has died after multiple crashes on Interstate 88 near suburban Naperville overnight.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers were called to the scene near Mill Street at approximately 10:58 p.m. Saturday for reports of multiple crashes.
When police arrived, they discovered at least four vehicles had been involved in the crashes.
The first crash involved two vehicles, and as a driver approached that crash they were attempting to slow down when they were hit from behind by another driver, according to Illinois State Police.
The driver of the car that was rear-ended was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
At least one driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the crashes, but it’s not immediately known if that driver caused the fatal collision.
The roadway was closed for several hours for cleanup and an investigation, and reopened as of 3:30 a.m.
