Three children were missing after a boat they were on in Lake Geneva capsized during a severe storm that hit the area Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Crews could be seen searching the water and along the shore near Big Foot Beach in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, video showed.
Neighbors told a reporter with WTMJ Milwaukee that the weather changed rapidly and strong winds began whipping across the lake while many families were out celebrating the start of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Details about the ages of the children or the boat involved were not immediately known.
Officials with the nearby Franklin Fire Department said their crews were responding to assist Lake Geneva Fire Department alongside several other agencies in response to “extensive damage caused by this afternoon’s severe weather,” in a post on social media on Friday.
“The Walworth County Fire Departments were faced with multiple structural collapses and water rescues simultaneously,” Franklin Fire Department said in the post.
