Pennsylvania high school state finalist Casey Braun has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of North Carolina Wilmington beginning in the fall of 2027. She confirmed the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of North Carolina Wilmington! I want to thank my coaches, family, and friends for helping me along this journey. I would also like to thank Coach Bobby and Coach Sarah for this amazing opportunity, GO SEAHAWKS!!
A rising senior at Upper Dublin High School in Fort Washington, Braun has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team for the past three years and currently swims year-round with Upper Dublin Aquatic Club. She specializes in middle-distance and distance freestyle but is also strong in the 200 backstroke.
A three-time qualifier for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A State Championships, Braun finished seventh in the 500 free (5:00.99) and 17th in the 200 free (1:54.87) this past March. In prelims, she clocked her current lifetime best of 4:59.11 to book her place in her first-ever ‘A’ final at the state meet. She swam her lifetime best 1:54.85 in the 200 free a few weeks prior at the District meet, capping a progression that saw her enter the season with PBs of 1:55.84 and 5:03.83.
Outside of high school competition, Braun holds best times of 2:05.75 in the 200 back and 17:24.29 in the 1650 free from the NCAP Invitational in December 2024, with season bests of 2:06.33 and 17:52.61 in those events this past season.

Braun’s current lifetime bests would have placed her 15th in the timed final in the 1650 free, qualified her for the ‘B’ final in the 500 free, and earned her a spot in the ‘C’ final in the 200 back, with her 200 free time just 0.86 seconds off the 1:54.14 needed for a second swim. She is already slated to be an immediate contributor and still has two full seasons of training to potentially improve before lining up at her first conference meet.
Braun joins Kylee Crotts and Abby Schneider in committing to the Seahawks’ class of 2031 so far.
