With a 3-axis gimbal, 4K video, dual batteries, and reliable GPS flight, the Ruko F11PRO 2 Plus offers an impressive aerial photography experience at a price that undercuts many premium competitors.

I’m certainly no professional drone pilot, but I have been getting pretty comfortable with the controller and phone pairings.  In fact, most of my experience with drones has consisted of flying them around the backyard, chasing my kids by buzzing over their heads, and occasionally getting just a good nature shot or overhead view of something you wouldn’t be able to appreciate otherwise, but I’ve always had a hard time getting that good night shot, and That’s exactly why I was interested when I got the opportunity to get my hands on the Ruko F11PRO 2 Plus.

I’ve looked at quite a few drones over the years, and one thing I’ve learned is that manufacturers absolutely love throwing huge numbers on the box. You’ll see things like 8K Photos, Long Range Transmission, High wind resistance and Professional Grade Camera, but until you get yourself off the ground and flying, you have no way to know if they were telling the truth.

Unboxing.

The drone arrives neatly packed inside a semi hard carrying case, and right away it feels like something a little more premium than your average budget friendly drone. Inside the case you’ll find the drone itself, two batteries, the controller, charging accessories, spare propellers, and some paperwork and manuals. What I appreciated most was that there really wasn’t any setup involved. All you have to do is make sure you have the App downloaded, batteries and controller charged and connected and then all that comes next is to fold out the arms, that’s pretty much it.

Build Quality & Design.

The first thing I noticed after taking the F11PRO 2 Plus out of the case was that it feels pretty solid in the hand, not like that super light and brittle plastic some of the other budget drones are using. It doesn’t have that lightweight toy-like feeling that a lot of entry level drones suffer from. The folding arms lock firmly into place, the plastics feel durable, and everything seems well put together and has a clean modern design that honestly reminds me of some of the more expensive drones on the market.

One thing I immediately appreciated was the inclusion of a true 3-axis mechanical gimbal. Having a physical gimbal makes a huge difference when it comes to keeping footage smooth and level, a huge plus in a drone at this price range.

Having two batteries as a standard for this kit is awesome too, most drones at this price range would only come with one. Nobody wants to get comfortable flying only to realize their session is over after twenty minutes, so this means you can spend considerably more time in the air without immediately shopping for extras. When one dies, pop it on the charger, toss in the other and you’re back in the air.

Camera Performance.

For most people shopping for a drone, the camera is the main attraction. That being said, The F11PRO 2 Plus still comes in and features an impressive 48MP camera capable of shooting 8K photos and recording 4K video at 30fps. And honestly, the footage looks fantastic, and the night shots that you get far exceed expectations considering what this drone costs.

I think what surprised me the most was how smooth the videos looked, and that’s a huge thanks to the 3-axis gimbal. Even on a breezy day the drone did a pretty good job keeping video stable and usable. Is it competing with a high-end DJI drone costing twice as much? No probably not

but considering the price category, And honestly, the camera looks far better than I expected for a drone in this price range.

Flight Performance.

This is where the drone really felt refined in more than just its skeleton. As someone who doesn’t fly one every day, I appreciate drones that don’t constantly make me feel like I’m one wrong joystick movement away from disaster. This drone picks up smoothly and hovers calm and steady allowing you plenty of time to get control and handle it like you’ve been doing it for years. The GPS positioning is excellent and helps the drone maintain a stable hover. Once it’s locked in, it stays nice and steady.

The automatic Return-to-Home feature also worked exactly as expected during testing. Knowing the drone can safely return if you lose signal or start getting nervous about distance adds a lot of confidence, especially for beginners. I still use this feature, the drone will shoot up into the air to help avoid any objects since it doesn’t have any obstacle avoidance technology, but it’ll work its way back to you, no need for a landing pad or a fixed GPS, it comes straight back to you.

Living in Michigan, calm days can sometimes be hard to find. And just recently we’ve been in a weird weather cycle full of windy days and rainy days, so it was nice that the F11PRO 2 Plus remained pretty stable in conditions that I know some of my other drones wouldn’t have been able to handle as gracefully, I guess that level 6 wind resistance claim was the real deal.

App Experience.

The layout is clean and easy to read while most of the functions are easy to find without digging through menus or spending your time on youtube haha. You can adjust camera settings, monitor battery levels, access intelligent flight modes, and review captured footage directly from your phone, and all the information coming in is all live feed. Everything felt like it was where it belonged, you didn’t have to spend 30 seconds finding your compass, it felt very dialed in.

User Experience

The first day I took the drone out, my plan should have been simple, nice park, calm day, lots of space, the ideal trial grounds, well that just sounds boring to me haha. So one of the main selling points about this drone is its night shots, and in my city there is a beautiful old bridge downtown that is illuminated at night, and of course I wanted to really see what this thing could do, so here we are on our first flight about to be over water haha.

Thankfully, we did not end up in the water haha. The drone lifted off so smoothly and immediately hovered and just felt extremely stable. The longer I used it, the more I appreciated how beginner-friendly it really is.

I remember standing there thinking, “This is either going to make for an awesome first flight or a very expensive splash.” Thankfully, it turned out to be the first one. The drone lifted off smoothly, locked itself into a stable hover, and after about thirty seconds I realized I was enjoying taking pictures instead of worrying about crashing.

I even handed the reins over to my 7 year old and he was able to handle it way better than I had expected. It’s nice that you don’t need years of drone experience to capture good footage, You don’t need to constantly fight the controls so if you are with your family you can just let it hover while in the air, take a bite of your food, push the kids on the swing, its fine, the drone will stay put pretty well.

The Auto return home feature is actually really nice too, one of my favorite reasons for it is when I let my kids use it and they lose sight of it thanks to its ability to fly 20,000 feet away and  I feel like I really like the design of this one too, something about the way the eyes light up kind of reminds me of a dragon fly or something futuristic, a nice touch! So back to actually flying this thing, I was blown away by how good the video quality was, while taking the video you still have a full screen and total control of the drone allowing you to capture your best possible shots, although when you go to capture a picture it still does take a second and freeze the screen before saving.

Once I got home and looked at the footage on a larger screen, I was honestly impressed. The bridge lighting reflected beautifully off the water, and there was far more detail in the shadows and the dark parts of the bridge than I expected from a drone under $500. When you take a video, it saves directly to your phone but when taking pictures you have to go into the app and download them to your phone, a small quirk but nothing I’d actually complain about. The F11PRO 2 Plus honestly took way better videos and pictures than I initially gave it credit for. From my time playing with it I definitely have to say this is an extremely capable drone and sits way above its weight class, super happy to have this in my collection.

Conclusion.

The best thing I can say about the Ruko F11PRO 2 Plus is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It isn’t pretending to replace a professional filmmaking drone that costs thousands of dollars. Instead, it focuses on the features that most people actually want like stable flight, good camera quality, solid battery life, and an experience that’s easy to enjoy for all ages and skill levels. And for families looking for a fun way to capture unique photos and videos, it’s a great option, I mean my 7 year old was able to control it much better than I would have expected.

For a controller and phone combo drone this has to be the best I’ve come across especially in its price point. I finally think I’m getting the hang of this drone flying and am excited for when I get the opportunity to test out some FPV drones! If you’re looking for a drone that offers a lot of features without requiring a second mortgage, the F11PRO 2 Plus is definitely worth considering. Thanks for reading and I hope I helped you decide if this was the drone for you!
