Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed 10 senior IAS officers as Voter List Observers to supervise the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls across Odisha, with an emphasis on ensuring a transparent, accurate and error-free voter database ahead of the upcoming elections.
The observers have been assigned district-wise responsibilities and will closely monitor the revision process through regular field inspections, interactions with election officials, political parties and members of the public.
As part of their mandate, each observer will undertake at least three field visits to the districts under their charge. During these visits, they will inspect polling stations, review the progress of electoral roll revision, assess the ground situation, and address grievances raised by stakeholders.
The ECI has also directed the observers to conduct enhanced scrutiny in polling stations or localities where additions or deletions of voters exceed 1 per cent of the district average or 3 per cent at the local level, ensuring that any unusual changes are thoroughly verified.
According to the Commission, the primary objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while maintaining a clean, accurate and transparent voter database free from errors or irregularities.
The draft electoral roll for Odisha will be published on July 5, 2026.
