NEW YORK, — A state audit found New York’s Domestic Violence Hotline often failed to answer calls and mistranslated texts, potentially delaying help for victims.
The State Comptroller’s Office said auditors made 25 test calls and sent 20 text and 20 web-based messages between December 2024 and June 2025. Of those, some messages were not answered, or it took longer than 30 seconds to respond as required by a contract.
Auditors also found that 25% of the messages were either mistranslated or not translated at all. The audit made several recommendations for the hotline.
The Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence says it has started corrective actions and formalized monitoring to address the issues.
