The Angels added left-hander Sammy Peralta on a minor league deal, the team announced. The reliever was designated for assignment by the Rockies earlier this week. Peralta passed through waivers and rejected a minor league assignment. It didn’t take long for him to find a new home.
Colorado grabbed Peralta via waiver claim from the Brewers in early April. He was called up to the big-league club on several occasions, but only totaled two appearances. Peralta permitted three earned runs over 2 2/3 frames. He did notch a bit of a personal milestone in his brief time with the Rockies, recording his first MLB start in his team debut. Peralta served as an opener against the Rangers ahead of righty Tanner Gordon.
This will be Peralta’s second stint in the Angels organization. He joined the club on a minor league deal in May 2025. The lefty reached the majors during the final few weeks of the season, tossing 10 2/3 innings with a 7.59 ERA.
Peralta has a diverse pitch mix for a reliever. He’s routinely shown a four-pitch arsenal during his various stints in the majors and has even added a fifth offering on occasion. The diverse repertoire makes sense given Peralta’s underwhelming velocity. He sits in the upper-80s with his four-seamer and sinker. The latter was a 2025 addition. Peralta has leaned on the sinker more than ever this year, as it has been his most-used pitch. He’s also thrown a sweeper, slider, and changeup at least 14% of the time.
