Day three has also not disappointed thus far, as a new Spanish national record bit the dust at the hands of 19-year-old Nil Cadevall.
The University of Florida Gator ripped a lifetime best of 27.30 in this morning’s heats of the men’s 50m breaststroke.
That not only erased Cadevall’s former PB of 27.50 set at last year’s edition of the competition, but it also shaved .12 off the former Spanish standard of 27.42 logged by Bruno Ortiz in 2019.
Cadevall’s time positions him in lane four for tonight’s main event, where teammates Joaquin Pardo and Juan Garcia will be chasing him. The former notched 27.63 as the 2nd-seeded athlete, with the latter hitting 27.78 for the 3rd seed.
With the main event yet to come, Cadevall’s effort already cleared the 27.30 selection standard needed to qualify for this year’s European Championships.
That’s good news for Cadevall fans, as the teen narrowly missed Euros qualification in the men’s 200m IM event on day one. He notched a time of 1:59.55, a new personal best, just shy of the 1:59.30 qualification benchmark.
