2026 SPANISH OPEN TRIALS

Thursday, June 25th – Sunday, June 28th Son Hugo-IME Palma Municipal Swimming Pools, Mallorca, Spain LCM (50m) Meet Central Day 1 Recap Live Results

We saw day two of the 2026 Spanish Open Trials take place in Mallorca, with history made in the men’s 100m freestyle event.

As we reported, not one, but two men dipped under the 48-second barrier in tonight’s final, marking the first time a Spaniard has ever achieved such a feat.

18-year-old Luca Hoek led the charge with a speedy new national record of 47.72, with 27-year-old veteran Cesar Castro not terribly far behind in a new PB of 47.98.

Miguel Perez-Godoy rounded out the podium in 48.38 to also get under the 48.58 benchmark needed to qualify for the European Championships.

The men’s 200m butterfly also saw multiple qualifiers for this year’s European Championships, with Arbidel Gonzalez grabbing the gold in a swift mark of 1:56.05.

Although that was off his own PB and Spanish national record of 1:54.99 put on the books at the 2023 World Championships, the effort was enough to clear the 1:56.41 time standard needed for this summer’s European Championships.

Joining Gonzalez in qualification was runner-up Isak Fernandez, who clocked 1:56.23 to secure the silver.

Miguel Martinez was tonight’s bronze medalist in 1:58.31.

The women’s 100m freestyle was another event in which at least one swimmer qualified for Paris, with winner Maria Daza putting up a gold medal-worthy outing of 54.20.

Opening in 26.04 and closing in 28.16, Daza beat the field by over half a second en route to exceeding the QT of 54.40.

Daza’s result checks in as the 2nd-best of her career, one that boasts a PB of 54.01 from the Spanish Junior Championships this past March.

Behind her was 16-year-old Irene Ciercoles, last night’s 100m backstroke victor, who turned in a performance of 54.76 as the runner-up.

Her effort destroyed her previous lifetime best of 55.13 entering this competition, going beneath the 55-second barrier for the first time in her young career.

Additionally, Maria De Valdes earned a Paris qualification, courtesy of her podium-topping time of 16:20.20 in the women’s 1500m free.

That result comfortably cleared the 16:23.18 QT and also represents the 4th-best of her career.
