Richie cut his show in Saint Paul, Minnesota short on Wednesday night, and his representatives have announced he will postpone the next two shows on his tour, including Friday’s show at the United Center.
“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus,” his reps said. “Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.”
The current plan is for Richie to return to his ongoing tour with Earth, Wind & Fire on Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
Richie was performing his song “Dancing on the Ceiling” during the opening stop of his tour in Minnesota on Wednesday night when he began to feel dizzy. Social media videos showed Richie sitting down on the stage briefly, trying to stand back up, then finishing the song while sitting down.
“What I have learned about my years of being in the busy, when you are feeling dizzy, sit yo a— down,” he is heard saying in the video. “And when you are feeling strange about yourself, sit yo a— down. Now, I want you to know that’s the first time in the history of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ I’ve done it sitting down. That’s a bad sign, that’s a bad sign, y’all.”
A short time later, a representative for Richie came on stage to let the crowd know the rest of the concert would be postponed.
Make-up dates for the Chicago and Columbus shows will be announced at a later date, according to Richie’s representatives.
