ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We have a Yellow Alert up for today due to rain and a gusty thunderstorm chance. Although no severe weather is expected, this will have an impact on outdoor plans like the Jazz Festival and may lead to some isolated tree damage with the strongest winds. Greatest chance for stronger storms and thus possible wind damage will be near the Finger Lakes. Timing for storms is 2-8pm. Before then however, we’ll still have rain starting around 8am. This will keep us cool and wet, with highs only in the low 70s, falling to the upper 60s this afternoon. Rain should taper off by a few hours after sunset.
Tomorrow we are back to Green on the Threat Tracker with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 70s, and although it will be a little humid it won’t be uncomfortable. Friday night expect upper 50s/low 60s and building clouds. This weekend will be mainly dry, with Saturday featuring a small chance of an afternoon shower. Partly to mostly sunny thereafter with highs in the mid 70s, then Sunday keeps the sun and climbs to the upper 80s. Humidity again will be noticeable but not uncomfortable.
An overall warmer-than-normal temperature trend will take over for the next 6 to 14 days, including the 4th of July. However, stay tuned for updates on the specific forecast for that time as we will be on the edge of a high pressure ridge, where daily storms could possibly fire up out of the northwest. That could be the case for the entire half of next week, but as to our chances of being hit by those storms, instead of them hitting more towards the North Country or far Western New York, we are still monitoring. In the meantime, enjoy the nice and warmer weather this weekend through Tuesday.
