George Hubert Flatt, known to family and friends as Hubert Flatt, passed away on June 21, 2026, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, at the age of 85. He was born on June 14, 1941, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, and lived a long life marked by hard work, steady faith, and devotion to the people and community he loved.

Hubert was a Christian man whose life reflected the values he held dear. He was a member of New Salem Church of Christ and found strength, comfort, and fellowship in his faith throughout his life. Those who knew him will remember a man of quiet character, dependable spirit, and genuine kindness, someone who met life with humility and a strong sense of responsibility.

A lifelong farmer, Hubert took great pride in the work of his hands and the land he tended. Farming was more than a livelihood to him. It was a way of life that shaped his days, taught him patience and perseverance, and connected him deeply to his roots in Jackson County. He understood the value of honest labor and the satisfaction that comes from caring for the land and providing for others. His work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew him, and he set an example of integrity and commitment for his family and community.

Hubert also gave his time and energy in service beyond the farm. He was a member of the Jackson Co. Soil Conservation District and the Jackson County Livestock Board, where he contributed his knowledge and experience to causes that supported local agriculture and the well-being of the community. His involvement in these organizations reflected both his practical understanding of farming and his desire to help preserve and strengthen the agricultural heritage of the area he called home.

He was born and raised in Gainesboro, Tennessee, and remained deeply connected to the community throughout his life. Gainesboro was not only his birthplace but also the place where he built his home, raised his family, and left a lasting legacy. His life was woven into the fabric of the town and county he served, and he will be remembered with respect and affection by those whose lives he touched.

Hubert is survived by his sons, Robert Flatt of Gainesboro, Tennessee, and Jason Flatt and his wife Amanda of Gainesboro, Tennessee; his daughters, Donna Flowers of Gainesboro, Tennessee, and Joanna Vaden and her husband Tony of Gordonsville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Flatt and his wife Rae Jean of Birmingham, Alabama, and Roger Flatt and his wife Shirley of Madison, Mississippi; and his sisters, Elsie Mackie and her husband Wayne of Greenbrier, Tennessee, Anna Mai Pittman and her husband Jimmie of Gladeville, Tennessee, Sue Pond and her husband Earl of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Teresa Driller and her husband Jim of Cookeville, Tennessee.

He leaves behind a loving family of grandchildren, Jonathan Flowers and his wife Catie of Gamaliel, Kentucky, Justin Vaden of Gordonsville, Tennessee, Amber Chodos and her husband Dave of Huntsville, Alabama, Tyler Vaden of Jacksonville, Florida, Morgan Borders and her husband Cole of Westmoreland, Tennessee, Cassidy Flatt of Gainesboro, Tennessee, Jasalin Flatt of Gainesboro, Tennessee, Wyatt Flatt of Gainesboro, Tennessee, and Luke Flatt of Gainesboro, Tennessee. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Brantley Flowers, Bethany Flowers, Bryce Flowers, Savannah Chodos, Rone Chodos, Nolan Borders, Ezra Claire Borders, Huck Borders, and Walter Borders. His family was a source of great pride and joy to him, and his love for them was evident in the time, care, and support he gave throughout his life.

Mr. Flatt was preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Sadie Flatt, brothers, John Richard (Rickey) Flatt and Roy Cooper Flatt; sisters Alma Jean (Tommy) Hooper and Linda Graves.

Hubert will be remembered for the strong foundation he built through faith, family, and hard work. He lived a life of purpose and devotion, and his influence will continue through the generations who follow him. Though his passing leaves a deep void, his memory will remain a comfort to those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 2, 4pm to 8pm and Friday, July 3, 2026, 11 am to 2 pm at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Anderson and Bro. Mike Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Isaac Flatt Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Vaden, Luke Flatt, Wyatt Flatt, Jonathan Flowers, Joey Pigg and David Ward.

Memorial donations may be made to Jackson Co. Cattleman’s Association Scholarship Fund or Isaac Flatt Cemetery by contacting the funeral home.
