News by : (EGYPT INDEPENDENT) -

The Cairo Primary Court ruled on Tuesday that Uber Egypt must pay LE10 million in civil compensation to the family of the late Habiba al-Shamaa, following the accident that claimed her life in February 2024.

The court dismissed the lawsuit filed against the American company Uber Inc.

The defense team for Shamaa’s family asserted that the lawsuit was based on the full legal responsibility of both companies for the incident, demanding compensation for the material and moral damages suffered by the family.

The attorney for the family explained that the lawsuit included Uber Egypt, headquartered in Cairo, as well as Uber Inc, noting that all necessary legal procedures had been taken to notify them of the lawsuit’s contents.

The incident dates back to February 21, 2024, when Habiba al-Shamaa boarded an Uber vehicle through the app before being involved in a tragic accident that resulted in her death.

This prompted her family to seek legal recourse to obtain fair compensation for the damages caused by the accident.
