Joanna Crockett, lovingly known in the family as “Nana”, passed from this earthly life on June 20, 2026, at home surrounded by family. She was 78. A private Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

Joanna Eatherly Crockett was born in Carthage TN to Mary Frances Apple Eatherly and Patrick H. Eatherly. Joanna earned her Master’s degree in Education and became a teacher. She taught several grades over her career, but primarily in elementary school. She was in special education administration for a short time but returned to her first love, teaching young children. Joanna had a life filled with family and friends. She loved her five children, eighteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren and was always actively involved in their lives. She and her husband, Bob, shared a life full of family, travel and adventure. She enjoyed outdoor activities like hiking in the Smoky Mountains, backpacking the Appalachian Trail, snow skiing, snowmobiling and exploring national parks. She was always involved with any family sporting activities including equestrian eventing, ballgames, band and cheer leading. She kept close relations with her many friends and especially her high school classmates she called “The Sisters of ’66”. She currently attended Light House Church in Gordonsville. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.

Joanna is survived by her partner, best friend, and husband of 49 years, Bob Crockett; children: Patsy (Trey) Sanders, James (Jan) Trainham, Mary (Davy) Baker, Becky Crockett (Nick) Stengel, and Jenny (Fred) Dixon; grandchildren: John (Kristen) Sanders, Patrick (Samantha) Sanders, Zachary (Bailey) Sanders, Kathryn “Nikkole” Sanders, Hadleigh Sanders, Betsy (Parrish) Little, J. Edward (Emma) Trainham, Luke (Andrea) Washer, Bradi Baker, Kameran Washer, Bill (Annie) Washer, Owen Stengel, Emilia Stengel, Greg Dixon, Henley Dixon, Annabelle Dixon, Hannah Dixon, and Emmie Grace Haynes; great-grandchildren: Quin, Jolynn, Jaylee, Haywood, Emerson Rose, Eleanor, Breckston, and Mila Sanders, Cora Waggoner, Henry James Little, Jaxson, and Lennon Washer, and two on the way; sister: Patricia “Dollie” (Jim) Cowan; niece Missy (James) Baker. She is preceded in death by parents Mary Frances and Pat Eatherly, grandparents Lucille and E.S. Eatherly, and Lena “GiGi” and O.P. Apple.
