The new Buffalo stadium puts into perspective the botch job the Chicago Bears have been fumbling with for the better part of four years. I don’t want to do the finger-pointing bit because it is pointless. However, I do want to underscore that the biggest difference between the two teams is that the Bills had a plan mapped out and executed it, while the Bears are only now working with Illinois lawmakers to iron out a deal.
Bears fans watching quarterback Caleb Williams’ development last year learned how much having a plan can go a long way toward getting what you pay for, which feels like something that is applicable to the team’s stadium situation. Cool renderings and videos are fine and dandy, but they are ultimately meaningless without financial backing and a political green light to make things go.
For what it’s worth, the Bears will get a chance to play at Buffalo’s new stadium later this season when the two teams square off. It’ll be wide receiver DJ Moore’s first game against Chicago after being traded by the team back in March. It sounds like the former Bears WR1 is making himself right at home in Buffalo. That will be just one of several premium storylines I’m sure we’ll be following in the days leading up to that one. And I imagine we’ll have some stadium talk mixed in, too.
