Alec Jeffers, a former collegiate swimmer at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has been named the head coach of the Green Bay YMCA Swim Team.
Jeffers comes to the Green Bay YMCA after serving as an assistant coach at the Ferguson Family YMCA in downtown Green Bay.
A graduate of Bay Port High School, the same school where his father, Steve Jeffers, spent several years coaching during his sons’ younger years, Alec was inspired to pursue coaching himself.
“When I was coaching high school, when he was probably 10 or 12 years old, he was always by my side,” said Steve Jeffers in a report from SkeberNews. “He always wanted to help with lineups and matchups against other teams.”
Jeffers then competed for in-state UW-Stevens Point, where in his time with the program, he earned a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in 2020, winning both the 100 and 200 backstrokes in 51.04 and 1:51.52, respectively.

“When he graduated and left Point, there was a hole in the team that just couldn’t be filled,” said Al Boelk, UW-Stevens Point head swim coach, in the report from SkeberNews. “He’s one of those guys that you don’t realize how much you’re going to miss until they’re gone.”
Like his father, Jeffers developed a passion for coaching and guiding young athletes to success in and out of the water.
“It’s one of those things in life that went full circle,” said Steve Jeffers, Alec’s father. “I never expected it and never really thought it was a possibility.”
“I really like trying to see kids reach their full potential,” Jeffers said. “And the joy that it brings when they eventually do.”
