Everyone has an opinion when it comes to the Chicago Bears stadium situation, but I thought Hall of Famer Mike Singletary had some interesting thoughts on the topic.
In a recent interview on “Up and Adams” with Kay Adams, the Bears legend sounded off with a bunch of thoughts when asked about the team’s ongoing stadium saga. Check it out:

I’ve laid out the quotes in full for those of you who don’t have access to audio at this time.
Mike Singletary thinks about what George Halas would have wanted:“I gotta be honest with you, I hear ya, I’ve heard it all, but at the end of the day, wherever they go — whether it’s Chicago, the suburbs, Indiana — as long as they win, they’re always going to be the Bears. I think Papa Halas would say just ‘win.’ Wherever you are, win. You’re going to be the Chicago Bears. Win.
While the “Just Win, Baby!” mantra belongs to former Raiders owner Al Davis, the sentiment shared by Singletary here (in honor of Papa Bear Halas) is one that fans can relate to when discussing this stadium situation. I’ve lost count of how many fans have told me that they care less about where they play and more about how they play.
Singletary on the financial element:“At the end of the day, if you’re in Chicago, and you’re trying to compete, and you can’t compete if you’re the Bears. And you can’t compete the way you want to, the way you need to, maybe because you’re not getting the amount of revenue you need. I don’t really know, but at the end of the day, I know a lot of that is financial. … But when it gets down to it, and you start talking about bringing in some of the better players, the more attractive free agents around the league, you want to be able to compete the way that other organizations are able to compete.”
If the Bears are trying to maximize profit margins with their new stadium, then a move to Indiana makes sense. The team could rent the land for pennies on the dollar and build out the property as a year-round destination en route to making the most money. Sure, they’d have to invest some cash in the project. After all, there are times when you have to spend money to make money. And as Singletary points out, this franchise’s ownership does not have the type of revenue streams that others do.
With that being said, I don’t love that the team’s stadium situation can be easily framed as a cash grab. The optics aren’t ideal, especially when you consider that this franchise is worth billions.
A reminder that winning cures all:“So, from that standpoint, it comes down to, you can stay in Chicago, but if you can’t compete on the financial side, you can’t continue to bring on players and coaches that are going to make a difference, then I think you’re going to see the stands a little less full than you’d like to see. But if you’re a winning organization, that’s what Papa Bear Halas had in mind when he was thinking about the Chicago Bears.”

In the end, winning is the thing that matters most. It would be wonderful for the Bears to have a stadium that is regarded as a crown jewel. Hosting Super Bowls, the Final Four, college football playoff games, and other premium events is neat. But what matters most to Bears fans is winning football games, division titles, conference championships, and Lombardi trophies. Once the team starts winning on a consistent basis, then the rest will work itself out.
