Is there any more peak offseason content than talking about the offseason during the offseason? I don’t know, but that’s where we’re at. With about a month to go until the Packers open their 2026 training camp, we’re at the point in the offseason when it seems all that most national writers can write about is the offseason itself.
To wit, today’s top link, in which CBS Sports declares the Packers one of the NFL’s five biggest offseason losers, mostly on the grounds that they “lost” a bunch of players. I’m preaching to the choir here, but you know the losses: Romeo Doubs, Elgton Jenkins, Quay Walker, Nate Hobbs, Rashan Gary, and a few other assorted small pieces.

But come on. Doubs was leaving, regardless. Jenkins’ leg was in multiple pieces. Walker was an expensive and difficult fit in the Packers’ defense. Rashan Gary didn’t appear that he wanted to play defense at all. And Nate Hobbs, he of the career-low 358 snaps last season, almost literally didn’t play at all. What kind of losses are those, really?
To be sure, the Packers’ plans for backfilling those losses are uncertain, hinging on rookies, aging veteran free agents, and Micah Parsons coming back at full strength. But I don’t think any of that puts the Packers in the category of having one of the worst offseasons in the league. That just seems like pretty typical work for a team that had a disappointing end to its season and is now working to get back to where it wants to be.
If that’s a bad offseason, I think a lot of teams would like to be where the Packers are.
