Emergency room visits for tick bites are continuing to climb, with the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing the Midwest and Northeast have some of the highest numbers as tick season continues.
“In all regions except the South Central United States, weekly rates of ER visits for tick bites are the highest for this time of year since 2017,” the CDC said in a release back in April.
In Illinois, ticks are most active in April, May and June, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. A post from the Will County Forest Preserve says that while tick season continues through the summer into mid-fall, “the life cycle of different tick species varies and plays a role in when they are most likely to be found on humans.”
