This Fourth of July, Liberty Station will hold its first-ever holiday parade and celebration.Dubbed “Anchored in Freedom,” Liberty Station’s new free communitywide Independence Day parade and festival will be held on Friday, July 3. The family-friendly event will feature a patriotic parade throughout Liberty Station with themed floats honoring freedom, service and community.

The Anchored in Freedom Parade kicks off at 1 p.m., taking place on Cushing Road. The festivities continue after the parade at Ingram Plaza, featuring live music from Navy Band Southwest and letter writing to active military troops, plus a wing-eating contest, costume contest, live music and other activities.While this initial one-time-only event commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary, Liberty Station may incorporate it into its annual event schedule, given the property’s historic significance.Anchored in Freedom will bring together neighbors, families and visitors to celebrate and pay tribute to America’s founding and the generations of service members who trained at Liberty Station during its time as San Diego’s Naval Training Center. Blending patriotism, remembrance and community connection, Anchored in Freedom is being presented in partnership with Love Thy Neighborhood, a nonprofit helping the homeless in their neighborhoods.Event sponsors include Submerge Church in OB, Heritage Landscaping, Lot Management, Guard West Security, Hoffman Hanono Insurance Services, Reliable Property Management Services, Kaleo Marketing and Point Loma Rotary Club.The La Jolla Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will also participate in Liberty Station’s inaugural celebration. “Coast to coast, we are on the eve of our nation’s 250th birthday, a once-in-a-generation celebration commemorating our nation’s Semiquincentennial,” said Terri Kidd, Honorary Regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution. “As we celebrate this year’s Fourth of July, our nation coast to coast will be ringing bells at 1 p.m. Give and find your joy.”The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism across the United States. The La Jolla Chapter was established in 1949 and as a community-based service organization supported through donations, grants and volunteers donating hundreds of hours for active military, VA, Veterans, USO, teachers, children, Wreaths Across America, Stand Down, and many more.Parade admission is free to the public, with free parking throughout Liberty Station.
