ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Five more school districts will join Monroe County’s Food Waste Diversion Program now in its second year.

County Executive Adam Bello says Brighton, Fairport, Penfield, Pittsford and West Irondequoit will all get up to $5,000 for the next school year. The money will be used for training, education and composting programs.

The program was first announced last March. In just the first four months of the program, it prevented 85,000 pounds of food waste from ending up in a landfill.
