The last time we had a BN Watch Party, the Chicago Bears won a Monday Night Football game against the Washington Commanders. Around here, we know it as The Jake Moody Game. If you enjoyed yourself on that night, then perhaps you’d like to run it back on Thursday for a BN Cubs Watch Party. I’ll be there. And if you want to talk about the Bears instead of the Cubs, I’ll gladly hold court.
The bad news is that it is Monday. I know that it’s cliché to hate Mondays. And I’ll admit that hating Mondays as a personality trait isn’t cool. However, I’m feeling the Monday blues. With that being said, there is good news. The Bears’ regular season begins in just 83 days. Perhaps this clip will cheer me up: Remembering a guy who wore No. 83: Martellus Bennett wore No. 83 for the Bears from 2013-15. He made his one and only Pro Bowl as a member of the Bears’ 2014 team, reaching career highs in targets (128), catches (90), and receiving yards (916). Imagine how much fun he’d have in Ben Johnson’s tight-end-friendly offense. Some other guys who wore No. 83 for the Bears include Willie Gault (1983-87), David Terrell (2001-04), Glen Kozlowski (1987), and Daniel Braverman (2016). I loved this quote (h/t Bears Wire) from safety Coby Bryant on Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson:“I love it, honestly. He’s filled with fire. He’s an offensive guy too, as well, but we have a lot of similarities hence that’s why I’m here. He’s a true competitor, every day he competes. He’s like us talking junk to him and vice versa, he talks junk to us too (on defense), I match his energy every day and vice versa. It’s been a special offseason.”

It is funny to think about the Bears having an offensive coach who is chirping his players on the defense. We’re not used to this team having an offense led by someone with such bravado around at Halas Hall. I like it here. I also think it is neat that players can feed off that energy. The human mind and what motivates the soul are fascinating things to think on in quiet moments. Bears safety Coby Bryant throws out a ceremonial first pitch before the game between the Cubs and White Sox at Rate Field. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images This probably deserves a more expanded post, but I wanted to share Pro Football Focus listing the Bears as one of the best environments for 2026 fantasy football players. That isn’t something you read often about Bears offenses. Traditionally, you’d want to stay away from a Bears player who wasn’t a running back. But that Chicago’s offense could produce fantasy football’s top-scoring tight end is worth noting. There is something to be written about how Bears personnel packages and fantasy forecasts go hand-in-hand. Perhaps I’ll get into that after that second cup of coffee. Speaking of tight ends, Aaron Leming makes an astute observation below. Third-round picks signing their deals could be what gets the ball rolling on this final wave of 2026 NFL Draft pick signings. Among the unsigned rookie draft picks is Bears tight end Sam Roush, who was the 69th overall selection:Between Onyedim & Crawford, this should set the stage for the #Bears to get TE Sam Roush under contract sooner, considering he went a few picks later than those two. t.co/AVl2ehJG2S
— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) June 22, 2026A snippet on Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet from Jacob Infante’s latest at Pro Football Network, as he ranks the Bears’ tight ends room No. 1 in the NFL:
Loveland was incredible as a rookie, finishing sixth in PFN TE Impact Scoring and landing ninth in tight end receiving yards. That’s not even including his playoff run, in which he had 12 catches for 193 yards in the Bears’ two games. Kmet is a reliable blocker and a strong security blanket who’s only dropped 3.9% of his targets since coming to Chicago in 2020.
Every four years, I watch the World Cup with my friends in an attempt to be sociable while also expanding my sports horizons. When my friends were telling me about England’s struggles in the World Cup, I blurted out, “So they’re like the Buffalo Bills of soccer?” Days later, I’m reading a post on the FOX Sports website comparing England’s fútbol team to the Dallas Cowboys. And, frankly, that is a much better comp. (Hey, it’s not like mine was bad!) You’d never guess why Indianapolis Colts star cornerback Sauce Gardner had to clear up confusion about his age. I don’t think anyone likes a weird and random offseason storyline more than I do. This seems like a side plot from a Spanish telenovela. Perhaps we’ll get some clarity on the Brendan Sorsby story with the deadline to apply for the NFL’s Supplemental Draft coming today.FOLLOW BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
Over at BN Cubs, Brett Taylor shares a first look af the 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series championship monument. Trade buzz is picking up around Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey. It’s not a big Blackhawks story, but it is notable NHL news to see that Brady Tkachuk has been traded to the Florida Panthers, where he will be teammates with his brother, Matthew.More Bears From Bleacher Nation: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
