The first full day of summer won’t feel much like it in the Chicago area, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s as cool conditions remain in the forecast.
“Summer has officially started, but it doesn’t feel like it,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack said Monday morning. “We haven’t had an 80 degree temperature now for more than a week.”
As of 5:15 a.m., temperatures were in the upper 50s, with patchy drizzle still lingering in some parts after more than 12 hours of rain Sunday. In Bridgeport, cars could be seen driving through big ponds of water on roads, with some appearing to get stuck.
More sunshine was expected Monday with drier conditions, Sack said. Monday will also be a dangerous day at Lake Michigan, with all beaches stretching from Wisconsin to Michigan under a high swim risk with dangerous waves as high as six feet.
Overnight, temperatures will dip back down into the 50s and even some 40-degree readings away from the lake. Tuesday will be slightly warmer and dry, with another round of intermittent showers and storms by Wednesday morning.
Temperatures will continue to moderate as the weekend approaches, Sack said, with temperatures slowly climbing and hitting the 80s by Saturday.
By next week Monday, temperatures could hit 90, Sack said.
