A 54-year-old man was able to fend off three would-be robbers onboard a CTA bus Saturday night.
According to Chicago police, the man was riding a CTA bus in the 5700 block of South Ashland at approximately 11:22 p.m. Saturday when he was approached by three male suspects.
The three men demanded the victim’s property, and they began to steal items from him, police said. At that time, the man reached into his bag and pulled out a sharp object.
A struggle then ensued, with the suspects attempting to attack the man and the man slashing at them with the sharp object, police said.
The three suspects exited the bus and were quickly taken into custody by Chicago police. According to authorities, two of the suspects were treated on-scene for minor injuries before being taken into custody, and charges are pending in the case.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for a laceration to his hand.
Area One detectives are investigating the incident, and no further information was immediately available.
