The Buffalo Bills have officially moved out.
It’s out with the old Highmark Stadium, and in with the new Highmark Stadium. A building the Bills have played in since it opened in 1973, Buffalo is onto bigger and better. Unfortunately for the Bills, their old home is being flattened, like many folding tables in the parking lots.

The building will soon be left to only live on in pictures, videos, memories and the stories its now-former patrons share. And that turning of the page is definitive, especially since this story is being written in permanent marker.
Jeff Uveino from the Democrat & Chronicle, part of the USA TODAY Network, got a behind-the-scenes look at the demolition taking place at the old Bills’ stomping grounds.

The demolition began on May 1 when the power was turned off, according to the Democrat and Chronicle. Work on the dismantling of the old stadium is expected to continue through March 2027.

Plenty of debris remains, but the building no longer resembles a place that was active just six months ago. Many of the concessions are gone, seating is nonexistent and the playing surface is a thing of the past.
The Bills brought down the curtain on their old home in style, with a 35-8 blowout win against the New York Jets on Jan. 4 in Week 18 of the 2025 season. A game largely played by backups with the Bills having nothing left to play for, the event turned into a celebration for the 53 years of memories the building created.
It was the fourth-oldest stadium in the league, trailing only Soldier Field, Lambeau Field and Arrowhead Stadium. While old Highmark didn’t have the state-of-the-art technology, it did have a noticeable charm for NFL fans. Now the new stadium will try to recapture some of that magic while attempting to add some more along the way.
New Highmark Stadium’s story will begin in the NFL regular season on Sept. 17, when the Bills welcome the Detroit Lions to town for a “Thursday Night Football” matchup.
