One person was killed after a major two-car crash in suburban Forest View overnight, police said, with the victim found lying on the ground near the crash site and authorities working to investigate.
The crash unfolded about 1:10 a.m. near 47th and Central Avenue, the Forest View Police Department said, with officers responding to the scene and reports of injuries.
When they arrived, officers found damaged vehicles and one person laying close by on the ground.
According to police, an off-duty emergency medical responder stopped and administered emergency medical care to the victim. That person was later transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where the person was pronounced dead.
Their identity is being withheld pending family notification, police said.
The area remained closed Friday morning while the WESTAF Major Crimes Accident Reconstruction Team worked to collect evidence, the police said.
