ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The 23rd Rochester International Jazz Fest is here! More than a dozen venues will fill Rochester with jazz from across the globe for the next nine days.
News10NBC’s Kristi Blake spoke with Rochester police about security measures for the festival.
Festival safety
Thousands of people from across the country travel to Rochester for Jazz Fest each year. The Rochester Police Department (RPD) will have a heavy police presence throughout the streets to keep everything under control.
Drivers need to watch out for closed roads as barriers will be out. RPD Capt. Greg Bello explained how festival goers can help keep the event safe.
“Inside the festival, you’re going to have uniformed police officers walking around. Beyond security, if you see something that’s out of place or someone who may need help, flag down a police officer or a security guard. We’re always there to help and to make sure the festival stays safe,” Bello said.
Festival goers will go through bag checks before getting into festival areas, similar to years past.
