HILTON, N.Y. — News10NBC’s latest Scholar Athlete of the Week is Riley Lent, a three-sport athlete at Hilton High School who just finished her junior year.
Riley Lent is good, like 100-varsity-goals-in-lacrosse-before-her-senior year-good.
“I got my 100th goal this year, and I had a couple highlight plays and stuff,” Lent said. “It’s just fun to be there.”
And that’s kind of the beating heart of Riley’s affinity to sports–having fun–in lacrosse, in cross country, and in field hockey.
Lent says having fun is at the heart of her love for sports. She plays lacrosse, cross country and field hockey.
“Field hockey, just every season is amazing. I love the people,” Lent said. “I just randomly decided to start in seventh grade, and my sister followed me, and my cousin followed me and just a whole bunch of people all started joining. So it’s kind of like literally my family. And then everyone there is my family. I love it so much.”
Lent is a star in both sports, but she says there’s really only one big similarity between the two.
“I just think that you have to be a real athlete to play them and [you] have to try hard,” Lent said. “And they’re both very rewarding.”
Lent says her lacrosse career has had plenty of ups and downs, including being cut from teams. Now she’s committed to play Division II lacrosse at Gannon University.
“There’s been a lot of rough patches, but I guess I just always stuck with it because I loved it so much,” Lent said.
After finishing up at Hilton next year, Lent will major in occupational therapy at Gannon.
