Rochester Land Bank selling city’s last historic cobblestone house for $1 ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Land Bank is selling the city’s last historic cobblestone house for just one dollar.

The Lockwood-Alhart House at 1090 Culver Road is being offered to an experienced developer who can renovate and preserve the property. The house was built in 1835 and is the last cobblestone structure in Rochester.

The land bank is looking for a qualified buyer to preserve the historic home. However, saving it will take a serious investment.

“We hope to find an experienced developer who shares our commitment to reclaiming this important artifact of Rochester’s rich history and architectural heritage,” said Mayor Malik Evans, who in 2023 asked the Land Bank to purchase the property to save it from pending demolition. “As we write the next chapters of Rochester’s story, we must do all we can to preserve the monuments that reflect the first chapters of that story.”

Purchase proposals are due Aug. 18. A link to submit a proposal can be found by clicking here.
