Reggae fans won’t want to miss this appearance from one of the pioneers of San Diego’s reggae community, who helped set the template for today’s exploding island music scene.

Fans of the likes of Todd Rundgren, Teenage Fanclub, Wings, and The Beach Boys will instantly consider The Lemon Twigs to be their new favorite band. Also well worth hearing, Detroit-based Mod Lang will open the show.

Heavenly Sounds at the Casbah

Reunited British band Heavenly stops in at the Casbah for a show on June 21. Best known for a string of influential jangly indie pop singles released in the early 1990’s, the band, still featuring original lead vocalist/guitarist Amelia Fletcher, guitarist Peter Momtchiloff, bassist Robert Pursey and singer/keyboardist Cathy Rogers, alongside new drummer Ian Button, recently released their first new album in 30 years, “Highway to Heavenly.” While current set lists focus on the excellent new songs, such as recent single “Portland Town,” long-time listeners can rest assured that favorites like “Space Mantee” and “Atta Girl” are also featured.

Heavenly: Sunday, June 21 at The Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd. 8 p.m. $32.

Guitarist Greg Douglass Returns to his San Diego Roots

Guitarist Greg Douglass returns to The Belly Up Tavern for a show with music producer Richie Varasso on June 21. The special matinee concert will feature a career-spanning setlist with songs from Douglass’s six decades in music. A former San Diegan, Douglass has had a long, storied career working with an impressive list of music notables, including Greg Kihn, Eddie Money, and Steve Miller, co-penning the latter’s 1977 hit single, “Jungle Love,” perhaps better known these days through streaming as the theme song to the ’90s sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Classic rock fans or anyone interested in great guitar work will enjoy this show.

Greg Douglass & Richie Varrasso: Sunday, June 21, at The Belly Up Tavern, 143 S. Cedros Avenue. 2:30 p.m. $20 and up.

Bob Dylan Comes to the Rady Shell

Hard to believe, but it’s been 62 years since Bob Dylan made his San Diego debut, circa 1964, at downtown’s former Fox Theatre, currently Symphony Hall. On June 21, the music icon returns for a show at The Rady Shell, just down the street from that location. One of the most important songwriters of the last century, at 85, Dylan isn’t resting on his laurels, perennially on tour and still releasing great music, most recently his album, “Rough & Rowdy Ways.” Dylan puts on a great show, adding in surprises to the setlist throughout the current road trip, but whatever he decides to play from his vast catalog will have fans hanging on every word. Opening the show will be Lucinda Williams and her band, and the John Doe Folk Trio.

Bob Dylan: Sunday, June 21 at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 222 Marina Park Way. 6:30 p.m. $89 & up.

Bocelli Balladry at Humphrey’s

What’s in a name? Sometimes it’s actually a really good reason to investigate new music, as in the case of Italian singer Matteo Bocelli, who performs at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay on June 23. He is the son of music royalty, legendary vocalist Andrea Bocelli. Matteo has branched out on his own, most recently releasing the album “Falling In Love.” Anyone who appreciates romantic balladry, along the lines of Dean Martin or late 60’s era Sinatra, will find plenty to enjoy in Bocelli’s beautiful, resonant voice.

Matteo Bocelli: Tuesday, Jun 23, at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay, 2241 Shelter Island Dr., Shelter Island. 7 p.m. $40.

Cover Band Showcase

Host Jeff Ousley’s next edition of Live Music Showcase, taking place on June 25 at Humphrey’s Backstage Live, will feature four up-and-coming new cover bands. On hand will be funk and R&B combo Soul Addiction, retro rockers New Brown Sugar Band, rock and soul group DB & Music Company, and classic rockers Haala Band. While the four groups on offer have different sounds and songs, their unifying factor is setlists filled with music meant to get folks up and dancing. With setlists built on Top 40 favorites, this show will be like a live jukebox.

Live Music Showcase: Thursday, June 25 at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay, 2241 Shelter Island Dr., Shelter Island. 6 p.m. $5.

Soulful Jazz of Ruby G

Anyone who is looking for an evening of soulful jazz and pop will want to check out singer Ruby G, who performs at Beaumont’s Eatery on June 25. Accompanied by a pianist, Ruby G is a great interpreter of standards, taking a song like Stevie Wonder’s 1972 funk hit, “Superstition,” and transforming it into a stormy jazz number. Playing multiple sets, Ruby G offers up something for just about every listening taste to accompany your dining experience.

Ruby G: Thursday, June 25 at Beaumont’s Eatery, 5662 La Jolla Blvd. 7:30 p.m. $10.
