ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Police Department says Denny Wright has retired from the department after nearly 30 years of service.

According to the lawsuit, there were 54 calls about the home in the previous 18 months, including a call that resulted in a standoff between Keith Williams and police. When Wright responded, he found Williams hiding and acting agitated. Wright called for backup, and bodycam footage shows Williams stabbing him multiple times in the head, face, eye, and body.
In May, the City of Rochester agreed to a lump sum payment of $1.25 million to Wright. The Monroe County Legislature also voted to approve a $500,000 payment for Wright.
In 2023, Wright received the Medal of Valor and the 2019 Governor’s Police Officer of the Year award. He was the first RPD officer to receive the award.
