Aside from its initial reveal and two subsequent delays, GTA 6 now looks set for its November release date.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy producer Eric Chort detailed how GTA 6 fears have impacted Asobo Studio's own release plans.
"When you know that GTA is coming, you know that in terms of marketing, in terms of players the time to play games, GTA is like the ogre, it's the biggest one.
"You try to adapt. You try to avoid it. But then this year, we see that there are only good games, or at least a lot of good games, so we're like, 'Okay, that's the industry', and we try to make the best game possible.
"After that, you've done your best and you'll see. But definitely, it's an odd year to go out."
Interestingly, this has had a secondary effect on the industry, creating a second danger zone for developers in September, with the month now full of heavy hitters.
Whether this gambit will pay off in the end remains to be seen, but what is undoubtedly true is that until mid-November, we are all living in the shadow of Rockstar Games.
