CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — On Saturday, around 5:30 p.m., Ontario County Sheriff deputies went to the lakeshore for a 7-year-old, who fell off a pontoon boat about a mile offshore, receiving critical lacerations from the propeller, the sheriff’s office reported.
Deputies say the child was on the boat when a wave caused him to fall in front of the boat, as it was moving. The boy fell between the two pontoons, leading to the boat passing over him and the propeller cutting his leg, according to deputies.
This led to critical injuries, the sheriff’s office reported.
The father jumped into the water and got the child back into the boat. The family then headed back to shore, deputies say.
Back on shore, the boy was stabilized by Canandaigua EMS, bystanders, deputies, and his parents. He was later taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight.
