Georgia took advantage of a major Texas miscue in the first inning on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs scored a pair of early runs to take a 2-0 lead. The damage seemed like it would end there after Kolby Branch swung over the top of a breaking ball with two strikes.
But the ball bounced in the dirt and scooted away from Texas catcher Carson Tinney, who then errantly attempted to throw Branch out at first base. Tinney’s throw was off the mark, allowing two more Georgia runs to score.
The Bulldogs then took a 4-0 lead before the end of the first frame. Here’s the chaotic play:

Georgia‘s first two runs of the game were driven in by a Rylan Lujo home run.
Georgia and Texas did not meet during the regular season. The Bulldogs entered Saturday as the favorite to win the National Championship. They swept the SEC’s regular season and tournament titles and have run into little resistance this postseason.
Regardless of the outcome, both of these teams will play again on Monday. The winner will face Oklahoma for a spot in the semifinals. The loser will battle Alabama in an elimination game.
