Last week was the start of Brandon Aiyuk’s return to social media and our return to overanalyzing everything.
Friday, the campaign continued with Aiyuk posting in Washington, D.C., of all places.
So why is Washington, D.C., so important? Because that’s where the Washington Commanders are, and everyone has speculated Aiyuk would end up in some way, shape, or form playing for the Commanders due to his relationship with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.

There’s just one issue with this: At the time of this writing, Aiyuk is still contractually on the 49ers. Even if he’s on the Reserve/Left Squad list, he is still affiliated with a team on the other side of the country. The Commanders can’t talk to him. That means some might think tampering is going on.
Not yet.
Just because Aiyuk is in the District of Columbia doesn’t mean he’s hitting up the Commanders—at least that’s a sound argument. For all we know, he has permission to talk to them. Because we really don’t know much. Publicly, the Commanders have been staying far away from saying anything about Aiyuk because of what bad things could happen should they engage in tampering.
In other social media news, if you were combing through the soon-to-be-whenever-it-happens former 49ers wide receivers’ Instagram history, you might be unable to find his two videos where he rips into the 49ers, calling them “stupid.” That would indicate he may have deleted them. Does that mean anything? Well, maybe it helps his employment prospects, since some have said they were a bad look.

Aiyuk will be looking for a new job at some point, and the 49ers are not quick to let him go. Once he’s a free agent, videos like that Instagram post are not going to help his chances of getting onto a new team. That said, the damage is done, and 31 teams in the league have no doubt seen the videos.
We’d like to say this is the end of things, but you know how this works. It’s June, and we have more to come. Buckle up, because it’s slowly becoming the summer of Brandon Aiyuk. Hopefully, Aiyuk gives us his side of the story in this whole mess sooner or later.
At least it’s not a quarterback controversy this offseason
