For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
PAVA Panthers Swim Club’s Claire Dobrydney has announced her commitment to further her academic and athletic careers at Iowa State University, beginning in the fall of 2026.
Dobrydney wrote the following regarding her commitment.
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Iowa State University! Thank you to Coach Matt and Coach Mo for giving me this opportunity! I am so excited! Huge thank you to all my Mako, Irish, and PAVA coaches, friends and family for supporting me to make my dreams come true! GO CYCLONES
Dobrydney hails from Aldie, Virginia, where she represents Saint Paul VI High School. This past February, at the VISAA State Championships, Dobrydney finished as runner-up in a pair of freestyle events, touching in 51.38 in the 100 free and 1:50.26 in the 200 free. Both times marked the fastest of her career.
In addition to her more sprint-centered freestyle events, Dobrydney also holds some skill in the distance free events, including a 5:00.15 500 free best from the NCSA Spring Championships in March and a 1650 free best of 17:28.16 from the 2022 Skypoint Transit Invitational. During that 1650 swim, she also clocked her fastest-ever 1000 free time of 10:33.02.

100 Free: 51.38 200 Free: 1:50.26 500 Free: 5:00.15 1000 Free: 10:33.02 1650 Free: 17:28.16The Iowa State women finished 9th at the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships last season.
Based on Dobrydney’s best times she would have finished 32nd in the 200 free, 36th in the 500 free, and tied for 38th in the 100 free at those championships.
The freestyle events were not a strong suit for the Cyclones this past season, scoring only 19 points across the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, and 1650, including 0 points in both the 200 free and 100 free.
Dobrydney is still well outside of scoring range, but with her best times coming and big meets, the ceiling is still high, and she could find herself making that jump up to the scoring range within the conference within a season or two.
The Cyclone women were just four points behind the 8th-place team, BYU, though 146 of Iowa State’s 520 points came from diving, the 3rd most of any team at the meet.
Dobrydney joins Maria Caldeira, Audrey Lindstrom, Asia Salvato, Hayden Bailey, Tessa Moore, and Scout McQueen in the Iowa State 2026 recruiting class.
