ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County seniors from the Monroe County Senior Citizen’s Academy got a behind-the-scenes look at public safety Wednesday.
Seniors got to meet the sheriff’s office special operations team. They watched demonstrations from K9, SWAT, and the bomb squad. They also learned about underwater search, drone response, and hostage negotiations.
What is the Monroe County Senior Citizen’s Academy?
The program, sponsored by the sheriff’s office, is an eight-week course that introduces participants to the units that make up the sheriff’s office.
Participants get to visit a new location each week to see firsthand what goes on behind the scenes.
