Georgia earns top 5 spot in ESPN’s ‘future’ power rankings ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

ESPN published an update to its annual “future power rankings” series this week.

The exercise accounts for several criteria, including coaching staff stability, offensive and defensive line outlook, roster management and more. ESPN’s stated goal is to rank teams by those criteria with both the 2026 and 2027 seasons in mind.

The World Wide Leader is bullish on Georgia, ranking the Bulldogs at No. 5 overall in their future power rankings. UGA is the No. 2-ranked SEC team, behind only Texas at No. 3. Notre Dame claimed the top overall spot.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg was particularly complimentary of Georgia’s roster management. Here’s an excerpt of his analysis on the Bulldogs:

Georgia continued to thrive with retention, as Stockton, Bobo, safety KJ Bolden, top running back Nate Frazier, Greene and others chose to return. The team lost only one starter to the portal in safety Joenel Aguero (Ole Miss), as well as several reserves on the defensive line and at cornerback to Power 4 schools. Curtis’ flip to Vanderbilt stung, but Georgia still signed the nation’s No. 6 class, which included five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro and 16 other SC Next 300 players, and loaded up on both lines and in the secondary. Georgia continues to be a recruiting machine: Since 2024, no FBS program has signed more blue-chip prospects than Georgia’s 62, according to ESPN Recruiting.

Georgia has won back-to-back SEC Championships but has not met expectations in the College Football Playoff over the past 2 seasons. The Bulldogs will be looking to change that in 2026-27.
