WEBSTER, N.Y. — Webster Town Supervisor Alex Scialdone says a pride flag was placed above the American flag outside town hall “unauthorized,” Tuesday.
In a statement, Scialdone said “I remain steadfast in my advocacy for the LGBT community; however, I do not condone any flag being placed above the American flag. When Town personnel became aware of the unauthorized lowering of the American flag on Town Hall property, immediate action was taken to raise it back into place.”
On June 4, the town board voted 3-2 to only show certain flags on town property. The pride flag was removed the next day, just days after it was raised outside town hall.
As it was lowered on June 5, some booed, while others chanted “USA.” The town supervisor said he will continue to support the LGBTQ community in Webster. When asked if there was a plan to get the flag back up, he said that is unknown.
