I recently moved into a new apartment. Over the past few months, I’ve slowly been turning it into a unique space that makes me happy to spend time there. User Experience
When you open the box, all the pieces are easy to sort out so that you can plan your installation. The strip is wound up in a spool so that you can unwind it as you install it. There are mounting clips, alcohol prep pads, the power cable, a USB-C cable to connect the strip to the control box, the control box and the calibration squares also included. At first, I was a little overwhelmed with all the elements of the setup, but if you follow the instructions carefully, it’s really not so bad.
The first thing you need to do is clean up your installation area. As I mentioned, the TV I was installing the strip on had old adhesive residue on it. I did my best to remove it, but since it was old, some of it still remained. Fortunately, it wasn’t in a place that the new strip was going to touch. So, I just worked around it. I wiped off the surface with the alcohol wiped that were provided and then started sticking the new strip on. It does stick easily, but I’m glad the clips are provided because they add a little extra stability especially at the corners.
After the strip is installed, I stuck the control box to the TV near near the center of the TV so that I could still plug the cables in but I wanted to make sure I could manage the cables, too. The strip lit up as soon as it was connected to power and then I connected it to the Govee app. The device showed up as ready to be connected and after I entered my WiFi information, it started working perfectly.
After the initial setup, I started the entertainment/video mode setup, which required adding the orange squares to the TV for calibration. If you are nervous about the adhesive being stuck to your screen, don’t be. The squares pop off easily once you are done with them. It’s a really easy process and honestly, the app does most of the work.
Since this is my first TV strip, I really appreciate how easy the setup is and how intuitive the app is. Navigating between lighting modes and settings is very quick. The app is responsive and I didn’t have any issues with it.
Once everything was configured, I was impressed by how accurately the system matched the content displayed on screen. Colors transitioned smoothly, and I didn’t notice any lag between the television and the lighting effects. Whether watching movies, streaming shows, or playing games, the backlight consistently reflected the on-screen action and helped create a more immersive experience.
As cool as the TV mode is, I typically use the light more for general ambiance. I find myself using the AI mode a lot to create special effects for our living room and I have to say, it really makes the space feel more unique and more like home to me.
