BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jury selection will start next week in the death penalty trial for the Buffalo Tops mass shooter.
News10NBC’s Buffalo affiliate reports jury selection will begin Monday, June 15. Payton Gendron is already serving a life sentence.
He pleaded guilty to state charges related to the racially motivated mass shooting at the Tops Market in 2022 that killed ten people.
Our affiliate also reports that over 1,200 Western New Yorkers are qualified potential jurors based on their responses to surveys sent to them in March.
Starting this month, members of the jury pool will report to court to complete additional questionnaires. Attorneys will start questioning prospective jurors who move past this point starting in late August.
The federal trial is scheduled to start in October.
