The 22-year-old blasted his way to a time of 21.06 in the 50 free final, chopping six one-hundredths off his day-old national record of 21.12 while moving up one spot into fifth on the all-time performers list.
During the semi-finals on Monday, Kornev clocked 21.12 to break Vladimir Morozov‘s Russian Record of 21.27 from 2019 while taking more than three-tenths off his previous lifetime best of 21.43, set last year.
In the historical rankings, Kornev moves past Great Britain’s Ben Proud for #5 all-time, becoming the second-fastest European ever and the fastest ever in a textile suit.
Frenchman Frederick Bousquet owns the super-suited European Record of 20.94 from 2009.

In the 2025-26 world rankings, Kornev still sits 2nd behind McEvoy, who broke the super-suited world record earlier this year at the China Open in a time of 20.88.
In Tuesday’s 50 free final, St. Petersburg swept the podium, as Kornev’s teammates Daniil Kosenkov (21.78) and Vasily Kukushkin (21.91) set personal best times to place 2nd and 3rd and move into 17th and 22nd in the world this season, respectively.
