The Guardian counted the deletions by comparing the CFPB’s current website to versions captured by the Internet Archive’s “wayback machine” and a mirror CFPB site created by a former CFPB employee, the report said.
The publication’s review of metadata on archived posts found that the most common topics in the deleted posts were enforcement, mortgages, banking and rulemaking.
Some of the deleted pages can be accessed at an archived site hosted by a third-party vendor, to which the CFPB provides a link on its website, per the report.
The Guardian’s report noted that Bloomberg reported earlier about the CFPB’s deletion of website content.

Bloomberg Law reported May 20 that all newsroom items published before February 2025 had been removed from the CFPB site in May, that the CFPB’s homepage was taken down in February 2025 and replaced with a portal for consumers to submit complaints about financial products or services, and that reports mandated by Congress and historical enforcement actions remained on the site.
