Just a horrible story out of the Dominican Republic, where a plane crash left two people dead. All the more haunting is that the plane was on its way to pick up former St. Louis Cardinals star catcher Yadier Molina and his family.

— New York Post (@nypost) June 8, 2026From the NY Post:
“A private plane heading to pick up St. Louis Cardinals legend Yadier Molina in Texas crashed just minutes after taking off in the Dominican Republic, killing the pilot and co-pilot.
The US-registered Gulfstream G200 Galaxy executive jet had taken off for Austin when the crew reported problems on board, forcing the pilot to attempt an emergency return to the airport Sunday.
It crashed in a massive fireball, killing the pilot and co-pilot, the only people onboard, officials said.”
Apparently the aircraft was attempting to return to its point of origin after declaring an emergency and crashed in the attempted landing. Your thoughts immediately go to the pilot, co-pilot, and their family and friends. Just a tragedy.
As for Molina, who currently serves as a special assistant in the Cardinals’ front office, the NY Post shares his statement: “My condolences to the pilots and their families,” he wrote. “This plane was on its way to pick up me, my family, and friends in Texas to return to Puerto Rico. This is all so heartbreaking.”
I expect that he and his family will have been gravely shaken by this incident, too. Mostly, I hope the families of those who died are able to find support around them in the days and weeks ahead.
