Oklahoma bolted out to an 8-1 lead in Game 2 of the Lawrence Super Regional on Sunday evening before the game was stopped due to a lightning delay.

Jason Walker began the game with a leadoff double and then came around to score to give the Sooners a 1-run lead. The real damage came in the 2nd inning, though, as Oklahoma pushed across 6 runs thanks to some timely hitting, plate discipline and multiple defensive miscues by the Jayhawks.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Dayton Tockey tacked on another run with a solo shot to make it an 8-1 game. Shortly thereafter, the game was paused due to lightning in the area.

Oklahoma won Game 1 of this Super Regional on Saturday, so a victory in this game would send the Sooners to Omaha for the College World Series. OU’s last trip to Omaha was back in 2022, when the Sooners made it all the way to the final before losing to Ole Miss.

This would be OU’s second trip to Omaha under head coach Skip Johnson. Prior to his arrival, the Sooners hadn’t been to the CWS since 2010. They’ve previously won 2 National Championships in in 1951 and 1994.

If Kansas comes back to win this game after the weather delay, a Game 3 would be played in Lawrence on Monday.
