Seven-time Utah high school state champion Rainie Moran has announced her verbal commitment to swim at the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
After much consideration, I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to the University of Utah to further my academic and athletic career! Thank you to the University of Utah’s coaching staff for this amazing opportunity and thank you to my family, teammates, and coaches for all their support through this process and this sport! GO UTES!!
A rising senior at Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Moran has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Omega Aquatics, where she primarily specializes in butterfly, breaststroke, and IM.
On the high school scene, Moran swept all four of her events at the Utah 5A High School State Championships in February. She won the 200 IM (2:02.79), dropping just under a second off her PB from the previous April, and claimed the 500 free title for the third straight season (5:05.29). She also anchored Olympus to a sweep of both sprint free relays in 23.35 and 51.84, well under her flat-start bests of 24.18 and 52.75. Her performance at the meet brought her overall state title count to seven, three individual and four relays.
The majority of Moran’s lifetime bests still stand from the 2023-24 and 2024-25 short course seasons. Her PBs in the 100 fly (56.35), 100 breast (1:05.52), and 200 fly (2:03.32) date to April 2025, and her 400 IM best (4:21.66) was set in April 2024. This past season, she added a lifetime best in the 200 breast (2:19.38) at Four Corners Speedo Sectionals in late March, while also going 56.39 in the 100 fly, just off her PB. Her season bests in the 100 breast (1:05.66), 200 fly (2:06.65), and 400 IM (4:22.56) all came at the UT SC Senior Meet in early December.

Moran’s current best time in the 400 IM would have qualified for the ‘B’ final, while her PB in the 200 IM would have been quick enough to advance to the ‘C’ final, and she still has two full seasons of development ahead before her first conference meet.
Moran joins Sophia Friestedt, Macy Malinski, Ella Butcher, Riley Hollingsworth, and Makenna Sherman in committing to Utah’s class of 2031 so far.
