I’m a huge fan of smart lighting. I think it adds character to a room and helps create an atmosphere that regular lighting just can’t match. Whether I’m working at my desk, gaming, watching a movie, or simply relaxing in the evening, the right lighting can completely change the feel of a space. User Experience
The Floor Lamp 3 comes in a simple Govee package, which includes all the parts you need to assemble the lamp. If you’ve ever put a floor lamp together, you will be familiar with the set up process of the Floor Lamp 3. A traditional floor lamp typically has segments that screw together to form the stand. With the Govee lamp, the segments line up and are connected by a small metal bracket. The ‘bulb’ of the lamp is actually a rope light that snaps into the segments that form the frame. It’s a simple assembly process and only takes about 10 minutes.
Connecting the lamp to your network and the Govee app is equally as simple. If you’re already a part of the Govee ecosystem, you simply open the app and tap the “+” button to add a new device. The Floor Lamp 3 automatically shows up and will join the app once you enter your network credentials. You can stop at this point and just control the lamp through the app or you can connect it to your smart assistant of choice. Mine is Apple Home and I was able to add the Floor Lamp 3 to the Home app using Matter.
Now, I have to tell you that when I set up the floor lamp, I was shocked at how much brighter it was than my two Govee Floor Lamp 2s. The 3rd generation of the Govee Floor Lamp is much more than just a refresh. Govee upgraded several key areas that make it feel more like a functional room light rather than simply an RGB accent lamp. Here is a quick look at their key differences.

The transitions between colors and brightness feel smoother than its predecessor, and it doesn’t really get that “hot spot” look that some RGB floor lamps end up with. Even simple warm white lighting looks more natural, which makes it easier to just leave on while working or hanging out without it getting distracting.
Day-to-day use has been pretty easy too. Most of the time I just open the Govee app, pick a scene or tweak the brightness a bit, and that’s it. It responds quickly, and I haven’t run into any lag or connection issues during normal use. Once it’s part of your routine, it just kind of blends into the background in a good way.
I experimented with Govee’s AI Lighting Bot 2.0, which can generate custom lighting effects based on text prompts. While it’s not something I use every day, it was a fun way to discover new lighting combinations and create scenes that I probably wouldn’t have designed manually.
One thing I do need to mention is stability on carpet. This was actually my biggest annoyance with the Floor Lamp 2, since mine would slowly start to tilt over time and never really felt fully solid. Unfortunately, I ran into the same thing with the Floor Lamp 3. On hard floors it’s totally fine, but on thicker carpet it doesn’t feel as stable as I’d like, and I still find myself straightening it every so often.
Overall, the user experience feels really polished. It’s easy to set up, simple to control, and flexible enough that it can switch between functional lighting and ambient lighting without much effort.
