WEBSTER, N.Y. — The LGBTQ Pride flag was taken down from the pole at Webster Town Hall on Friday morning, amid dueling chants over the decision to remove the flag.
The Webster Town Board voted 3-2 on Thursday night to only show certain flags on town property. The town raised the flag on Monday, marking the town’s first-ever Pride flag raising, taking place during Pride Month.
As it was lowered on Friday, some booed, while others chanted “USA.” The town supervisor said he will continue to support the LGBTQ community in Webster. When asked if there was a plan to get the flag back up, he said that is unknown.
