As the unaffected members of the Walford community made their way to The Queen Vic for a lock-in, George Knight (Colin Salmon) had a tense confrontation with his vile, racist adoptive father Eddie (Christopher Fairbank).
Eddie had questioned her relationship with Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway), and in today's episode, Gina questioned whether the differences in their skin colour would mean they never fully understood one another. Harry reassured her that he'd always stand by her, and in a tender moment, they both confessed their love.
Gina was still furious with George, unaware that he was attempting to resolve the situation. During a conversation about their past, Eddie asserted that the only reason he killed George's birth father Henry was to give him a better upbringing.
Appalled by the words, George took a step backwards and watched Eddie climb out of bed to take some medication. He suddenly began choking, and reached out for a glass of water - but George refused him the drink, and instead downed it himself.
When Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) returned home, he was dead. George made it clear that he knew about her receiving money from Eddie in exchange for him being allowed to live with them.
Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) wasn't far behind Lauren, and told Max that she wanted to reconcile - and accept his marriage proposal. He was overjoyed, but the secret of his affair was now weighing heavy over him.
Meanwhile, Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) was keeping vigil at son Jordan's (Jahsaiah Williams) bedside in hospital, as he began his long recovery after being hit by Ian Beale's (Adam Woodyatt) car.
He was asleep when she walked into the living room, and when he awoke, questioned why she'd been absent for much of the day. She blurted out a brief explanation of her diagnosis, and the tears began to stream down his face.
Suddenly, she was faced with a harrowing reminder of her own mortality.
